Error 422: Storage Limit Exceeded

What Is Causing This Error?

Error 422 occurs when the recipient’s mailbox has reached its storage limit and can no longer accept new messages. This can happen due to a mailbox being filled with large attachments or not being cleared out regularly.

The error signifies that the server is temporarily unable to process the email delivery because the recipient’s space is full.

Resolving the Error

To resolve “Error 422: Storage Limit Exceeded,” ask the recipient to clear mailbox space by deleting unneeded emails and attachments, especially from the trash or deleted items. Senders can alert recipients about the issue via other methods. For long-term management, consider regular clean-ups or increasing the mailbox’s storage limit.

Once sufficient space is made available in the mailbox, the recipient receives new emails again without encountering this error.

If you’re using SendLayer, you can check your account to see whether SendLayer accepted or rejected the message and whether the recipient has been suppressed. See Checking the Email Log and Managing Your Suppression List for more details.
