Error: MessageRejected (client): Email Address Is Not Verified

What Is Causing This Error?

The ‘MessageRejected (client): Email address is not verified’ error often occurs on sites configured to send emails through the Amazon SES server.

It indicates you’re attempting to send an email to an unverified email address. This can happen if your Amazon account hasn’t been approved for Production Mode.

By default, new Amazon accounts are in Sandbox Mode. And Amazon requires that you verify any email address(es) you wish to send emails to.

If your account is in Sandbox mode and you haven’t verified the recipient’s email address, you’ll likely encounter this error.

Resolving the Error – Solution

To fix this error, you’ll need to upgrade your Amazon account status from Sandbox Mode to Production Mode. Please see Amazon SES documentation for more details on migrating your account.

Alternatively, you can verify the recipient’s email address if your account is still in Sandbox Mode. This ensures your emails get delivered.

If you’re using an SMTP plugin like WP Mail SMTP, you’ll see the option to verify an email address during the setup process.

Note: To learn more, please see WP Mail SMTP’s tutorial on configuring the Amazon SES email provider.

That’s it! Now you know how to fix the ‘MessageRejected (client): Email address is not verified’ error.
